February 2012 in Sheshatshiu, Labrador

The Special Adviser spent the month of February 2012 in Sheshatshiu. The purpose of the visit was to  learn about Innu culture and to build meaningful relationships between the Innu and the Memorial University community. The Special Adviser spent time with the staff of the Innu Nation, Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation, Sheshatshiu Innu School, Mamu Tshishkutamashutau Innu Education as well as many community members, including elders and children. Her stay in Sheshatshiu was made possible by Memorial's Diversity Education Fund and the Office of the President.

While she was there, the Special Adviser was visited by Dr. Keith Chaulk, Director of the Labrador Institute, and Dr. Kirk Anderson, Dean of Education (pictured below). The Special Adviser enjoyed her stay in Sheshatshiu immensely, and learned a great deal from community elders and leaders.
