Clubs & Societies

Memorial University of Newfoundland Students’ Union (MUNSU) recognizes nearly 100 clubs and societies. These groups are a great way to connect with students who share your interests, or to make positive change on campus, in the community, and abroad. By joining a club or society you can meet new people while becoming actively involved in the Memorial community. Many clubs and societies can help to complement your academic interests.

Clubs and societies at Memorial are organized by the Memorial University of Newfoundland Student’s Union (MUNSU) and can be broadly classified into six categories:

  • Academic
  • Athletic
  • Cultural
  • Faith
  • Political
  • Recreational

Some of Memorial’s clubs and societies that were active on campus last year include:

  • Archaeology Society
  • Biology Society
  • Let’s Talk Science
  • Enactus Memorial
  • Engineers Without Borders MUN
  • MUNHOPE (Health Outreach, Promotion, & Education)
  • MUN Judo Club
  • MUN History Society
  • MUN Sociology Society
  • MUN Scuba Club
  • MUN Debate
  • Global Citizenship Initiative
  • Rotaract Club of Memorial University
  • United Nations Society
  • MUN Oxfam
  • Best Buddies
  • MUN Ballroom and Latin Dance Club

These are just a few examples of the types of clubs and societies MUNSU has to offer. There are close to 100 different clubs and societies that you can choose from. If you can’t find a club or society you’re interested in, you can always start your own!

A great way to learn more about clubs and societies is by attending the annual fair held each year during day two of fall orientation. During the fair you can visit booths and chat with members of each club and society. It’s a great way to get an idea of what each club or society is like and to find the right fit for you.

If you’re interested in starting your own campus club or society, the MUNSU Director of Student Life can help you out. To start a new club or society, first connect with some other students, staff or faculty interested in joining your group, then fill out a club or society recognition form found on the Memorial Students’ Union website. Applications are reviewed by the Students’ Union and all groups that fit with the bylaws and policies of the Students’ Union are approved. It’s that easy!
