General Admission Requirements

Credential

Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) or at least one year of study at a recognized Junior College, College or University.

 

Required Subject Areas

  1. English
  2. Mathematics*
  3. Laboratory Science* (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
  4. Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language
  5. Elective

*Students who are missing an eligible mathematics or laboratory science course, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1 to 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact international_registrar@mun.ca.

 

General Admission Criteria

Admission average
  • Completion of the BGCSE with at least five subjects including the required subject areas with a minimum grade of C; and a minimum of two 2-unit subjects on the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) or successful completion of one year of study at a recognized Junior College, College or University. Exceptional students may be considered based on their BGCSE.
Proof of English Proficiency
  • Additional proof of English proficiency beyond completion of the BGCSE and CAPE examinations is not required. Please refer to the University Calendar for further details.
Competitive program entry (if applicable)
  • Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions. For further details, refer to the supplementary application forms and documents page.

 

Additional Notes

Completion of CAPE subject examinations with minimum scores may qualify accepted applicants for course-based transfer credit. Refer to the Office of the Registrar's transfer credit policies for further details.

  • Certified copy of your BGCSE Final Certificate or Statement of Results Certificate* sent by post or courier and Official CAPE results sent by post or courier from the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) or certified copies of your final CAPE certificates sent by post or courier or official transcript sent directly from the Junior College/College/University.

 

If you have completed CAPE examinations

  • Certified copy of your BGCSE Final Certificate or Statement of Results Certificate* sent by post or courier and Official CAPE results sent by post or courier from the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) or certified copies of your final CAPE certificates sent by post or courier or official transcript sent directly from the Junior College/College/University.
    If applicable, an official transcript sent directly from the Junior College, College or University will also be required.
  • Proof of English language proficiency (if required). See General Admission Criteria above.
  • Supplementary application form and documents for your faculty, school or program.
