Start Chatting! In Every Language! All the Time!

Chat is a new program offered by Student Success Programs through Student Services and Affairs at Memorial University of Newfoundland. The launch date for Chat is Friday, October 21, 2005 as a part of the International Bazaar (Celebrate Memorial).

What is Chat?

The functionality and philosophy of CHAT are simple. Students sign up (for free!) to wear buttons of different colors, each corresponding to a different language. When two students see each other wearing a button of the same color (same language) they can stop and Chat in that language, or simply say "hi". The philosophy of CHAT is to create an awareness of and the possibility to learn about and practice other languages and cultures.

Who can be involved?

Any student, staff or faculty at Memorial University! Whether you can speak 8 languages fluently, or only speak one language and would like to and are willing to learn others. The only quality that you must possess to participate is an openness to diversity of language and a willingness to learn new languages, (with out being afraid to make a mistake!) You can sign up to participate in Chat, you can help out by volunteering for special events, or you can take a shot at being on the Chat Student Executive.

How do I sign up?

There are several ways to sign up to participate in CHAT. Throughout the semester CHAT booths will be periodically set up at various locations around the campus and will have CHAT buttons and information. Also, you can drop by the Student Volunteer Bureau (SVB), or ANSWERS anytime year round!

And for the grand finale...
