Dr. Wanda Thomas Bernard
Dr. Thomas Bernard is a professor of social work at Dalhousie University. She visited the school for Social Work Month 2013 and gave a lecture on "End of Life Care in Marginalized Communities: Lessons from Research in Nova Scotia". Many people who attended stated they were grateful for the awareness that Dr. Thomas Bernard helped us raise within ourselves.
Dr. Laurence Kirmayer
Dr. Kirmayer is a professor and director of social and transcultural psychiatry at McGill University, editor-in-chief of Transcultural Psychiatry, and director of the Culture & Mental Health Research Unit at the Institute of Community and Family Psychiatry, Jewish General Hospital, Montreal. He visited the School of Social Work on October 25, 2011 and lectured on "Culturally Responsive Practice with Immigrant and Aboriginal Populations". He explored the role of culture in shaping the perceptions, behaviours and responses to psychological problems.
