 Fred Andersen

Fred Andersen received his BA, BSW and MSW from Memorial University.

Fred is of Inuit ancestry and is from Nunatsiavut, Newfoundland and Labrador. For over twenty-five years Fred has worked in the fields of mental health, addictions, Aboriginal health promotion, HIV and AIDS, harm reduction, and community-based research. He is currently an assistant professor at Memorial University's School of Social Work.

Fred's research interests include examining social aspects of Inuit youth suicide, building on the notion of self and influence of reference group and attitudes; indigenizing research approaches that promote Aboriginal methodologies; examining the appearance of ethics creep and it's relation to Aboriginal community-based research; and, promoting Inuit organizational development from the perspective of appreciative inquiry.
