Work Experience in Social Enterprise

The Centre for Social Enterprise works closely with community partners to create integrated learning experiences for motivated and talented undergraduate students with social enterprises in Newfoundland and Labrador. It blends our objectives of developing students as future social entrepreneurs while supporting non-profit organisations transition to social enterprise.

Students assist on social enterprise-related projects, specifically designed to meet the needs of the partner community organization in exchange for experience that helps the students hone their skills and explore future career paths.

The program enables both undergraduate and graduate students to develop their skills and expand their resume with structured, paid positions that offer meaningful, career-related experience within their communities. The placements in social enterprise provide exposure to community needs, opportunities to develop a deeper understanding of community issues and hands-on experience in real-life social enterprise work environments. The program also emphasizes ongoing reflection and personal development.

The centre is innovating through part-time paid work placements that bring students of different disciplines to work together in the same organization on the same project. This collaborative approach aims to develop the students as future community leaders while delivering additional capacity to the partners in the community.
