Welcome to Orientation 2011

September 6th – 15th


Tuesday, September 6th
9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Orientation Day Activities (see attached schedule)
4:30 p.m. BBQ on the Patio - HSC

Relax after a long first day of pharmacy school and get to know your new classmates as well as those in other years at a BBQ! Faculty and staff welcome.


Wednesday, September 7th – 1st day of classes!


Thursday, September 8th
5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists (CSHP) Student Welcoming Session Location: Lecture Theatre A

Come hear about the exciting opportunities available to students through involvement with CSHP. Find out how you can win a night on the PartyBus for you and 39 of your friends. Food and beverages provided.After the session enjoy a free evening and charge up your batteries for a jam-packed weekend!


Friday, September 9th
6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Memorial University Pharmacy Society Mixer

Let loose at your first pharmacy mixer in the Student lounge. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available; must be legal age to buy alcohol. Please bring ID. Faculty and staff welcome.


Saturday, September 10th
7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. Beach Party

Bus will leave from the School of Pharmacy and head to Middle Cove Beach for a bonfire. Marshmallows and wieners will be provided and students over 19 can bring their own alcohol. This is a student-only event and friends are welcome. The Bus will head back to the school at 11:00 p.m. Feel free to drive if you like!


Sunday, September 11th
2:00 p.m. Photo Scavenger Hunt

Meet at the School of Pharmacy and then set out with your team. Racing around town trying to complete crazy tasks is a great way to get to know the city and your team-mates. Faculty and staff welcome.


Monday, September 12th
12:00 p.m. – 12:50 p.m. Scotiabank Lunch and Learn (first year students only)
Lecture Theatre D

Scotiabank provides a sub sandwich lunch and an information session on loans, credit lines, credit cards and other financing options through Scotiabank. Location.


Monday, September 12th
7:00 p.m. Movie Night
Location: Main Auditorium

Why go to Empire Theatres when you can see a movie in the comfort of your own school? The added bonus is our snacks are free! You're going to be writing exams in the Main Auditorium eventually, so you might as well have some fun in that room while you can. Movies to be decided by vote during the first week of classes. Faculty and staff welcome.

 

Tuesday, September 13th
7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Glow Bowling

Come out for pizza and glow bowling at Plaza Bowl, Ropewalk Lane. Don't miss your first chance to eat Pharmacy pizza! Trust us – you'll be eating this stuff at ever pharmacy event for the next four years. Don't forget to wear white! Faculty and staff welcome.

   

Wednesday, September 14th
7:00 p.m. P-DAY!

A pharmacy tradition, P-Day is the best party of the year! P-Day will be held at the Mount Pearl Track and Field (next to the Glacier). School buses will be available at the School of Pharmacy parking lot at 7:30 to bring students who do not have transportation to the event, as well as back to the school afterwards. Everyone is welcome but you must be legal age to consume alcohol. There are lots of fun events planned so come and have fun with our without the booze. For those of you not from "The Rock" be prepared to get screeched in! This is a student-only event and due to limited capacity this is a pharmacy student ONLY event. This event is BYOB.


Thursday, September 15th
7:00 p.m. Scholarship and Awards Night

 

Although not officially a part of Orientation Week, Awards Night is held at this time every year to recognize student achievement. It is followed by the Class of 2015 class picture taken on the steps of the main auditorium. Business attire is required. All students are expected to attend. Wine and cheese reception to follow.
