Historical Background

MLC Logo

The Mathematics Learning Centre (MLC) was established in 1993 in Memorial University's Division of Continuing Education to facilitate the transition from school mathematics into the post-secondary stream and the workplace.

From 1988 until that time, the core of the MLC operated within the Mathematics Department with a more limited scope of activities.

The very existence of this unit anywhere within the University was due in large part to funding received from Employment and Immigration Canada and the Provincial Departments of Employment and Labour Relations, and Education, in response to a widely acknowledged need for services designed to bridge this gap.
