April 1: Martha discussed the illustration project for the new children’s book with Cynthia Colosimo and Jolene Ashini.
April 2: Martha met with Susan Arscott and Bill Morrissey from the Gardiner Centre to discuss offering the Master’s Certificate in Project Management in Goose Bay next January.
April 3: Interviews were held for the Education Specialist position (evaluator for social work program).
April 3-5: Keith was in London for the London Affinity Dinner and also visited the Scott Polar Research Institute ( http://www.spri.cam.ac.uk) in Cambridge, England.
April 6: Martha attended an Interdisciplinary PhD seminar.
April 8: Martha went to the College’s CAS transfer class to do a survey on post-secondary plans. This was the follow-up to the survey done with all grade 12 students in Labrador.
April 8-11: Marie Clément attended the NSERC Hydronet 3rd Annual Symposium ( http://www.hydronet.umontreal.ca/nserc-hydronet-symposium2013.htm) in Montreal.
April 9: Dr. Joinal Abedin was notified that his grant application under the Provincial Agricultural Research Initiative was funded to the amount of 120k. Congratulations Joinal!
April 10: Marie Clément submitted a manuscript entitled “What otolith microchemistry and stable isotope analysis reveal and conceal about anguillid eel movements across salinity boundaries” to the journal Oecologia.
April 11: Martha attended an advancement council meeting and presented the quarterly report for the Labrador Institute.
April 11: Martha met with Kate Duff from Medicine to talk about community and research.
April 12: Merline met with George Russell Jr. (Environment and Resource Manager, NunatuKavut) to initiate a discussion on potential mining impacts on our communities as well as to discuss potential collaboration and industry development.
April 17: Ron attended a planning committee meeting for the Northern Exposure Conference and Trade Show scheduled for Jan 29-31, 2014 in Ottawa. This is a joint initiative of the Labrador North and Baffin Regional Chambers of Commerce.
