Town of Fogo - Fishing

Lewis Payne spent his adult life participating in the sealing and fishing industries. Here he talks about some of his experiences as a fisherman, including how he had to borrow a boat during his youth, until he could afford one of his own. He also addresses some of the changes that have taken place in Fogo since the collapse of the cod fishery.

The Society for United Fishermen building was built in 1874, and still stands in Fogo despite several years of adandonment. It continues on as a reminder of how important the cod fishery was during the Town of Fogo's past.
