Student Health Survey 2008

In 2008, in collaboration with the University Counseling Center, we surveyed the student population after obtaining ethics approval from Human Investigations Committee. The instrument used was the National College Health Assessment (NCHA) survey, which is the foremost survey on student health, and is done throughout North American universities. Our survey results were presented to senior administration and the students, and we are planning to repeat the survey (in collaboration with other Canadian universities) to monitor Canadian student health trends.

Our survey data indicated significant mental health issues, and supported the hiring of a university psychiatrist dedicated to our student population in 2008. Our wellness education efforts are guided by these results.
