Student health clinic moves to fifth floor of the University Centre
In Winter 2017, renovation began for a new Interprofessional Student Wellness and Counselling Centre. The centre will bring wellness researchers, educators and service providers from wide-ranging disciplines together in a space designed specifically for developing and evaluating innovative health and wellness programing.
The first phase of the renovation is almost complete and will allow family physicians to join the existing counselling and wellness space on the fifth floor of the University Centre (UC).
During the week of June 5-9, physicians will move from the fourth floor in the UC to occupy a temporary space in UC-5000 while the permanent space for medical examination rooms is renovated that week. From June 5-9, students seeking acute care – meaning quick, single concern physician care, such as colds or flus, prescription refills, etc. – will be directed to a temporary space in UC-5000. More complex clinic requests, such as specialist referrals or medical tests and procedures will not be available to students from June 5-9.
As of Monday, June 12, the health clinic elements of the new Interprofessional Student Wellness and Counselling Centre will be integrated into a permanent space in UC-5000.
Key dates and details:
· For health clinic visits until June 2, visit UC-4023 or call 864-7597.
· For acute care health clinic visits from June 5-9, visit UC-5000 or call 864-7597.
· For health clinic visits after June 12, visit the new space in UC-5000 or call 864-8500.
An additional clinic will be held on Saturday, June 17 beginning at 8:40 a.m. due to the move.
Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Closed Daily 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Sorry walk in clinics are suspended until further notice!
Walk in clinics for the FALL and WINTER semesters are held on Mondays starting at 12:30 pm and Wednesdays starting at 1:00 p.m. Numbers will be handed out from the front desk wicket and then you wait in the waiting room to be seen. We ask that patients restrict sameday walk-in appointments to the immediate problem at hand, and book a later appointment for other issues. Certain emergencies, depending on severity, may have to be directed to Health Sciences Centre ER. Walk-in clinics are not for notes. Notes must be written by the physician who has been following your illness.
Important Notice Regarding
Walk in Clinics
Sorry walk in clinics are suspended until further notice!
Your Student Health Service is fortunate to offer “walk in” clinics.
You can use these doctor visits for addressing one straightforward problem, such as a sore throat, a urinary infection, colds and flu, obtaining a sick note, an ear infection, contraception renewals or other urgent prescription renewals that can’t wait until the next available appointment.
You can not use these visits for pap tests, medicals, getting forms signed, STD screening or following up for ongoing medical conditions, ie: depression, stress, high blood pressure, acne.
Walk in visits provide you with a brief time to address one complaint with the doctor. Some issues require a longer time to be discussed, these appointments should be booked. Please keep in mind the counselling centre has an on call counsellor during regular working hours and are just located upstairs on the fifth floor.
Skipping your booked appointment to attend the walk in clinic is not acceptable and will be subject to a $30.00 missed appointment fee.
*In case of emergency please proceed to the nearest hospital, either the Health Science Centre or St. Clare's Emergency.
Student Health is available to current REGISTERED students of Memorial University and its affiliated institutions (eg. Marine Institute). Children of students are welcome. Spouses and children of international students are welcome.
