Symptoms of H1N1

H1N1 flu symptoms are very similar to the symptoms of the typical seasonal influenza seen every winter. Common symptoms of H1N1 have an abrupt onset (going from well to ill in a few hours) may include the following:

Almost always:

  • Sudden onset of symptoms (within hours)
  • Cough and fever (usually greater than 37.8°C)

Common:

  • Fatigue
  • Muscle/body aches
  • Sore throat
  • Headache
  • Decreased appetite
  • Runny nose

Sometimes:

  • Nausea
  • Vomitting
  • Diarrhea

High fever and other signs of illness may indicate another serious illness besides H1N1. Contact your health provider if you believe you may be seriously ill, or if you are pregnant or in a high-risk group and get sick.
