New website assists faculty to use technology

By Courtenay Alcock

A new website has been developed to assist faculty, instructors and staff to use technology in their teaching and daily work. Created by Distance Education, Learning and Teaching Support (DELTS), the website provides access to resources, contacts and training events, including pedagogical and technology support.

The technologies primarily supported by the new website include Desire2Learn, Memorial's learning management system for on-campus and distance courses, as well as Lecture Capture, which records and shares lectures with a class. Support for other technologies, such as online rooms (previously referred to as Elluminate Live!), will also be added in the near future.

"This site was designed to encourage and support the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning at Memorial," said Colleen Collett, instructional design specialist at DELTS and a member of the teaching with technology team. "It provides an easy way to access all the resources and guides you will need to use any of our core technologies."

Denise Carew, instructional design specialist, and Terry Sutton, assistant instructional designer, are also members of the team that developed the technology resources site.

"Whether you want general information about a technology, to explore a technology's tools and features or learn how to do something specific in your course or work, this site will provide the support you need at your own pace," added Ms. Carew.

Key features of the site include step-by-step guides on specific tools and features, frequently asked questions, information about courses, workshops and events, as well as a blog for trending information related to teaching with technology.
