The Faculty of Education is proud to announce that Dr. Alice Collins was recently the recipient of the Festival 500 Appreciation Award as an individual who has made a significant contribution to the growth and success of the festival.
Festival 500 is a biennial international festival of choral music that takes place in Newfoundland and Labrador. Memorial University operates in collaboration with the festival in a number of ways to promote music throughout the province. Memorial hosts the Phenomenon of Singing International Symposium which gathers international expertise on the pan-human phenomenon of singing. This symposium provides a forum for academic discussion and the dissemination of research, with a view to generating scholarship that is sensitive to issues of international scope. Memorial also extends an opportunity for graduate students to fully participate and learn from international scholars of choral music.
Congratulations to Dr. Collins for this honour, one that has only been bestowed once before since Festival 500 began in 1997.
