Memorial University's Corner Brook campus has a new director of alumni affairs and development (Grenfell Campus).
Memorial's Board of Regents approved the appointment of Charles Pender to the position at its July 5 meeting.
Mr. Pender, a longtime resident of Corner Brook who is known as an educator, administrator and former municipal politician, has most recently held the position of director of the Grenfell Secretariat, to which he was appointed in 2010.
"The search committee is pleased Mr. Pender's three-year term appointment has been approved by the board," said Dr. Mary Bluechardt, vice-president (Grenfell Campus). "In his previous role, Mr. Pender helped us develop the preliminary alumni and advancement profile at Grenfell Campus. In addition, he brings a wealth of knowledge in the areas of community development, strategic planning and capacity building."
In his new role, Mr. Pender will be responsible for the strategic planning and the development and implementation of alumni affairs and development for Grenfell Campus, Memorial University.
"We are very happy to have a presence in an official capacity at Grenfell Campus," said Penny Blackwood, Memorial University's director of Alumni Affairs and Development. "This new position will allow Grenfell to work closely with us to develop opportunities for Grenfell alumni to connect with their alma mater as well as research and develop services and benefits in line with the wants and needs of alumni."
Mr. Pender will commence his new duties as director, alumni affairs and development (Grenfell Campus) on Aug. 15, 2012.
