Peter Miskell, a second year undergraduate student, was chosen to represent Memorial at the 2010 Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists’ (CSPG) Student Industry Field Trip (SIFT) in Calgary from May 2-14. During SIFT, Mr. Miskell and his teammates were awarded the SIFT 2010 Technical Interpretation Award for best geological and technical understanding and interpretation during the exploration seminar game. The exploration seminar game was judged by members from industry from Suncor, Conoco, Cenovus, Imperial and Devon.

SIFT is the flagship outreach program for the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geoscientists (CSPG) and is sponsored by a multitude of companies. This two week trip to Calgary included lectures presented by experienced, well-known professionals in the petroleum industry, core workshop seminars, field trips to the Rocky Mountains and Dinosaur Provincial Park, a rig tour, and a student-industry wine and cheese. Throughout the duration of the trip, students are also involved in an exploration seminar game that allows the students to apply techniques practiced in the petroleum industry.
