Dr. Christopher Kovacs, Faculty of Medicine, was invited April 26-27 to a special think tank of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta as a consultant expert on the issue of vitamin D and its possible role in preventing preterm birth and preeclampsia. The CDC convened this think-tank of 50 experts for a private consultative meeting in order to determine what is currently known about the possible association of vitamin D with these two obstetrical outcomes, what knowledge gaps exist, whether any public health recommendations can be made at the present time, and what the research priorities are for the future. Of the 50 attendees, 16 gave invited didactic lectures and Dr. Kovacs was one of those 16 people.
