Presidential search documents available online

The search for a new president for Memorial University has resulted in an ongoing public discussion about the autonomy of the university and the role of the provincial government in the selection.

A number of statements and releases have been issued by the university, government and others on the matter.

The most recent was a resolution by the Board of Regents in which it accepted the recommendation of Senate from Sept. 9 calling for a committee of both Board and Senate members to recommend changes to the University Act that would “secure and preserve autonomy for the university and … bring clarity to the role of government in the presidential search process.”
