Students learn how to get ready to graduate

Mapping the future

Memorial is throwing a party and helping students soon set to graduate map their future.

Grad Street Festival will take over the third floor of the University Centre on Friday, March 20, providing students with ample information about life after university.

A series of booths will be set up providing students with information on things such as how to register for convocation ceremonies and receive tickets and how to rent a cap and gown.

Students will also get the scoop on careers after graduation, discover the benefits of becoming a Memorial alumni, explore graduate programs and learn more about diploma framing, class rings, souvenirs and apparel.

The event is based on the concept of “a road to your future” with each stop along the way containing specific information.

“Directional road signage will direct students along the road in a progressive path as they complete the steps necessary to graduate,” said festival co-ordinator Jessica Clarke of the Division of Marketing and Communications. “The festival atmosphere will be accentuated with entertainment and prizes during lunch.

“The purpose of the event is to get students in the know and up-to-date on all information relevant to becoming a graduate,” she added.

Marketing and Communications is collaborating with a number of units and departments to organize the event including Alumni Affairs and Development, the Registers Office, the Centre for Career Development, the School of Graduate Studies, the Marine Institute and the University Bookstore.

“This event is so important because it ensures students that they are completing all the right steps to becoming a graduate,” said Ms. Clarke. “They are able to meet face-to-face with the Memorial staff that makes all these things happen.”

Grad Street Festival runs from 10 a.m., to 4 p.m., in The Landing.
