Parking is permitted only in designated parking areas on campus unless permission to park elsewhere is given by an Enforcement and Patrol officer, police officer or parking attendant. Parking areas are sign posted and any special instructions regarding restricted times for parking are noted. PARKING IS NOT PERMITTED ON CAMPUS ROADWAYS (EXCEPT WHERE METERED PARKING IS PROVIDED), LOADING ZONES, FIRE ZONES, TRAFFIC LANES WITHIN PARKING LOTS, DROP-OFF POINTS, OR WHERE OTHERWISE INDICATED.
5.2 Alternative Parking
5.2.1 The university cannot guarantee that parking space will be available at all
times in a designated area. If the assigned area on 1, 1A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,7,
7A, 8, 9, 10, 10A, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 15A, 15B, 15C, 16, 16A, 17, 18, 19, 20,
21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 30, 31, 36, 51, 52, 56, 56A, 60 or 62 is fully occupied or inaccessible, alternative parking for valid permit holders is area 15 or 16A. If the
assigned area on parking areas 9, 9A, 9B, 9C, 9E, 9H, or 9K is fully occupied or inaccessible, alternate parking for valid permit holders is area 9G. If the assigned area on parking areas M2 or M4 is fully occupied or inaccessible, alternative parking for valid permit holders is area M1. (Marine Institute property, Nagles Hill)
5.2.2 Parking areas 15, 16A and 9G are available under normal circumstances
to any vehicle with a valid university parking permit after 3 p.m.
5.2.3 For reasons of personal safety, valid university parking permit holders may park their vehicle, as space permits, in a lot closer to their building at the following times:
Between 5 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday
5 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday
5 pm. Wednesday and 7 a.m. Thursday
5 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday
4 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Monday
Also during statutory holidays and other times when the university buildings are closed.
The following lots are excluded: 9B at the Health Sciences Centre; 1, 2, 8, 10, 10A, 11, 12, 13, 14, 24, 25, and 56A on campus; and
parking areas with control gates or meters.
5.3 Visitors’ Parking
For the convenience of visitors, metered areas for parking have been provided
near several campus buildings. User pay parking is also available in the
following areas at the rates and times posted, space permitting.
Parking Area 3 - off Westerland Road;
Parking Area 9A - off Warners Road at the Health Sciences Centre;
Parking Areas 9C, 9D - off Clinche Crescent, Health Sciences Centre;
Parking Areas 15B - off Phelan Road and Burton’s Pond Road;
Parking Area 17 - off Irwins Road
Parking Area 22 - off Morrissey Road east of Business Building
Parking Area 27 - off Arctic Avenue/Sandpits Road and Parking Areas 60 and 61
- Alexander Murray Building, enclosed parking structure off Arctic Avenue.
All vehicles must be removed by 7 a.m. daily. Visitors are required to park in
areas designated for visitors unless directed otherwise by a CEP officer or
Trailers may not be parked on campus unless explicit permission is given by the
Enforcement & Patrol Section.
5.5 Closure of Parking Areas
The university reserves the right to close any campus parking area at any time it
is deemed necessary for maintenance, cleaning, snow clearing, safety or to
meet special requirements.
The assistant manager of Enforcement
and Patrol (Parking) should be contacted regarding a disabled individual’s
particular parking problems. (See Section 2.8.2.)
Conferences, Seminars, Guest Persons bringing a vehicle on campus to
attend or participate in conferences, seminars and lectures should contact the
organizer regarding parking arrangements. The Enforcement and Patrol
Section will endeavour to provide parking as available space permits. (See
Section 2.8.3.) An administrative charge of $1 (plus HST) per day will apply.
5.6.3 Temporary and Special
Provision is made under these regulations to accommodate temporary and
special requirements. (See Section 2.8.1.)
5.6.4 Departmental Permits
A departmental parking permit may only be used by members of a department
in carrying out their duties to the university or the hospital and is intended
to provide temporary parking in a parking area other than that allocated
to the individual. Departmental permits may be used only by currently registered
permit holders in vehicles registered with the university. It is the
responsibility of the dean, director or department head to ensure that a
departmental permit is not misused. Misuse of a departmental permit may
result in the rescindment of the permit. (See Section 2.8.4.)
