Gerard Van Herk

Gerard Van Herk is the Canada Research Chair in Regional Language and Oral Text and an Associate Professor in Memorial's Linguistics Department.

His research and publications focus on varieties of non-standard English world-wide, including those spoken by African Americans, Barbadians, Newfoundlanders, and Quebecers.

He is currently studying the effects of rapid urbanization on a small Newfoundland community and tracing links between negative identity and language change.
