David Butt

My name is David Butt. I have been a teacher for 16 years. I have had the pleasure of working at Discovery Collegiate, Bonavista; Gander Collegiate, Gander and at my present school, Ascension Collegiate, Bay Roberts. I also spent two years at The Department of Education as Program Development Specialist - Core French.

I became interested in French at an early age and after a trip to St. Pierre in Grade 9 and to Quebec in Grade 10, I was hooked. At that time I decided that I wanted to pursue my studies in French and become a French teacher.

After completing high school, I studied French at Acadia University (B.A.) and Université Sainte-Anne where I was enrolled in their Immersion program for 2 semesters. Following my degree at Acadia, I had the opportunity to live in France for a year where I was a lecteur at the Université de Poitiers.

After my year abroad, I completed my B. Ed at Saint Mary's University. In May 2007, I graduated from Memorial with a M. Ed in Curriculum, Teaching and Learning Studies.

Thanks to my studies in French I was able to secure employment as a teacher within three months of graduating and I have never been without a position since that time. My studies in French and my teaching career have provided me with a world of opportunities which include teaching many amazing young people and getting to work with a lot of very dedicated and committed individuals at the school, district, provincial and national levels. Finally, on a personal level, I am grateful to French and to teaching for the many opportunities to travel and to experience the history and culture that I may otherwise have never known.
