Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) as a First Degree Consecutive Delivery Program

The Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) as a First Degree Consecutive Delivery program is a four consecutive semester (16 month) program which commences in Spring semester. The Consecutive Delivery program provides a more timely completion of the Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) as a First Degree program. It is intended for candidates who have already completed a substantial number of academic courses (78+ credit hours) applicable to this degree. The total number of credit hours for the degree remains at 150. This program is available at both Corner Brook and St. John’s campus. The deadline for submission of application for this program is December 1.

Consideration will be given to courses for which an applicant is registered for at the time of assessment of applications. To be considered for admission, students must have successfully completed 78 credit hours as outlined in (a-h) below with a cumulative average of at least 65% or an average of at least 65% on the last attempted 30 credit hours.

The 78 credit hours are:

a) twelve credit hours in English including at least 6 credit hours at the 2000 level or above - ESL courses cannot be used to satisfy this requirement;
b) six credit hours in Mathematics or 3 credit hours in Calculus;
c) six credit hours in Psychology
d) Science 1150 and 1151; or 9 credit hours from 3 separate Science areas. (Science areas are: Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Environmental Science, or Physics; or a Science Focus Area;
e) six credit hours chosen in any combination from Anthropology, Archaeology, Economics, Folklore, Geography, History, Linguistics, Political Science, Religious Studies, Sociology;
f) six credit hours in French (recommended) or six credit hours in a single language other than English, or demonstration of equivalent competency in a second language;
g) A completed Focus Area and;
h) Additional credit hours to fulfill the required 78 credit hours. (Note: a maximum of 3 credit hours in an Education elective may be used towards fulfillment of the required 78 credit hours).

Please Note: The French Immersion Option is not available in the Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) Consecutive Delivery Program

Applicants to this program will only be considered pending space availability following a review of applicants to the Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) as a Second degree program. In assessing applications to the Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) as a First Degree Consecutive Delivery program, consideration will be given to students:

a) overall academic performance; and
b) personal statement, and references as outlined on the application to the Faculty.
