Kirby and Gardner take home award
June 3, 2011
Dr. Dale Kirby and Dr. Morgan Gardner have received the R. W. B. Jackson Award for the best article in the peer-reviewed Canadian Journal of Education for 2010. The article, titled "The Schooling they Need: Voicing Student Perspectives on their Fourth Year in Senior High School", explores the experiences of a class of "Level IV" students including their perspectives on the barriers and challenges they encounter in making progress toward high school graduation.
"We are honoured to receive this award", said Dr. Kirby. "We hope it will help bring the problem of high school non-completion back to the policy forefront. All students, regardless of background or challenges, should have the supports they need to graduate from high school. We believe this is a very basic expectation of schooling."
