New and experienced gardeners are always welcome at this annual fundraiser organized by Friends of MUN Botanical Garden (FOG) volunteers. A selection of locally grown perennials and shrubs are being offered from the outdoor venue. Experienced gardeners will be on hand to answer questions and help identify plants suitable for your garden. Look for volunteer greeters wearing orange safety vests and our directional and parking signs. Quantities are limited for some plant varieties so come early for best selection! FOG Pink Days in Bloom (PDIB)
Sunday June 11th to Sunday June 25th inclusive
FOG members and gardeners alike can attest first hand to the many physical and mental benefits realized from connecting to nature through the variety of tasks associated with working with plants indoors and out. And, as many of you know all too well from personal, family or friend’s experiences, breast cancer continues to be the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Canadian women over the age of 20, with one in every 9 expected to develop breast cancer during her lifetime. It is the second leading cause of death from cancer in Canadian women. Men can get breast cancer, too. In 2016, it is estimated that over 440 people were newly diagnosed in Newfoundland and Labrador alone. Therefore, in an effort to reach out to our community, and to promote the healing benefits of connecting with the Garden’s nature and gardening-based experiences, FOG has joined the provincial based PDIB fundraising campaign. A $1 from each plant sold during FOG’s PDIB will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society for breast cancer research. Click here for additional information about Newfoundland and Labrador’s involvement in PDIB efforts that can be found on the Pink Days In Bloom Facebook.
