Nature Safari Family Program - Take a Walk on the Wild Side!
Discover MUN Botanical Garden with nature exploration, storytelling, and songs. An excellent opportunity for parents (or care-givers) and children to have fun together while learning about nature. A respect for nature and all its “critters” will be emphasized. A hike to Oxen Pond to feed the ducks will be followed by story time and a stroll through the flower gardens. Parents are invited to bring along a healthy snack for story time. This is a one-hour, outdoor program. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Duck feed will be provided.
Gardening For Bees
AT MUN Botanical Garden we have been gardening for pollinators for over 40 years! During this PowerPoint Presentation, get to know about the different kinds of bees in Newfoundland, including their life cycles, food preferences and how we can all do more to help them in our own back gardens.
The ABC’s of Composting
During this one hour PowerPoint Presentation, Botanical Garden experts will provide tips and tricks on back yard composting. We have been creating garden soil though compost since the Garden was created in 1971. Thanks to the City of St. John’s, and in partnership with the MMSB, MUN Botanical Garden is offering a series of free backyard composting information sessions again this season. Residents of the City of St. John’s can avail of a subsidized compost bin purchase program.
Flower Garden Tour
Join our gardening staff and see what’s in bloom at MUN Botanical Garden. This outdoor program will take place in the flower garden area. Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes, suitable for gravel paths. Everyone is welcome. Gardening questions welcome!
In addition, our celebrations will continue on June 17-18, during our 6th Annual Rhododendron Festival. For more information please visit http://www.mun.ca/botgarden/event/rhodofest.php.
