Biology 1001
Calendar description of Biology 1001 and 1002
An introduction to the science of Biology, including a discussion of the unity, diversity and evolution of living organisms
Overview of 1001
In Biology 1001, you will study some fundamental biological principles that apply to all living organisms.
You will also become familiar with the Prokaryotes - Bacteria and Archaea. As well as looking at some of the problems that bacteria can cause for us, you will discover that these life forms are vital to our survival on the planet. However, when we study viruses, we will see a different story!!
After the prokaryotes come the EUKARYOTES, life forms made up of cells each containing a nucleus. We are eukaryotic organisms.
We will finish 1001 by focusing on organisms that can carry out photosynthesis, the primary producers that feed the planet!
In particular, you will find out about the beautiful (and some not so beautiful) flowering members of the Plant Kingdom
