Nutritional Biochemistry

The Department of Biochemistry invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor in Nutritional Biochemistry. The department offers undergraduate degree programs in both Biochemistry and Nutrition, as well as a robust graduate program. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute primarily to the delivery of the Nutrition programs, but the ability also to contribute to other undergraduate and graduate programs in the department would be an advantage. The successful applicant will be expected to develop a rigorous, independent, externally funded research program in nutritional/metabolic biochemistry. The position is subject to budgetary approval. While the exact area of Nutritional Biochemistry is open, those employing modern biochemical techniques to elucidate the molecular mechanisms relating nutrient use to health and disease are encouraged to apply, as are those studying the role of nutrition as it pertains to aging or exercise science. The department has existing strengths in metabolic and nutritional biochemistry; please also visit the department website at http://www.mun.ca/biochem/ for more information. The successful applicant’s research program would be expected to interact with existing research programs. It is also envisaged that through the establishment of new collaborations, the successful applicant will further strengthen ties between the Department of Biochemistry and other departments within the university.
Applicants should have a strong background in both Nutrition and Biochemistry/Metabolism, with a Ph.D. in one of these areas, or closely related field. The successful applicant will have an established track record of research, and at least two years post-doctoral experience. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, full CV, a three page research proposal, a one page discussion of teaching experience and philosophy, and a list containing the names of at least three referees with complete contact information - all submitted as a single pdf document of less than 2MB to Dr. Mark Berry, Head of Department, at biochem@mun.ca by not later than November 30, 2017, using the subject heading “Nutritional Biochemistry tenure-track position”. We thank all interested applicants, but only those selected for interview will be contacted further.
