Harlow English Cultural Landscape 2015

Project Title: Harlow English Cultural Landscape 2015

Project Lead: Dr. Gerald Pocius, Dept. of Folklore, Memorial University

Project Description: This trip will enable students to experience first-hand the actual WWI battlefields where so many Newfoundlanders sacrificed their lives. Faculty will instruct students in the issues of presenting the heritage of war, issues about commemorations, the actual material monuments in these WWI battlefields, and how the landscapes are presented and interpreted. How these landscapes have helped to create Newfoundland national identities will also be examined, and how they relate to commemorative landscapes back home. These issues will be specifically addressed in the English Museums and Historic Sites course.
