Dr. Tina Yu
Department of Computer Science
Dr. Yu is interested in all aspects of intelligent computing, from theory to practice. Her current research includes using interactive evolution and interactive visualization to look at real world problems. As well, her research involves reservoir modeling and simulation and modularity in machine learning, particularly in genetic programming (GP). She is interested in the area of fuzzy logic, a problem-solving system which allows computers to arrive at a definite conclusion based upon vague, ambiguous, imprecise or missing input information.
Between 1990 and 1995, Dr. Yu was a member of the technical staff at Bell-Atlantic (NYNEX) Science and Technology, White Plains, N.Y. From 1999 to 2005, she was on the math modeling team at Chevron Information Technology Company, San Ramon, Calif. She joined Memorial’s Department of Computer Science in October 2005. She has received numerous awards including the Outstanding Individual Performance Award from ChevronTexaco Exploration and Production Technology Company in 2003, the Outstanding Performance Award, from ChevronTexaco Information Technology Company in 2002 and the Best Presentation Award from the Fourth European Conference on Genetic Programming in 2001. She has served as co-editor on two books on genetic programming and has authored several journal articles, book chapters and referred conference/workshop papers.
Dr. Yu received her M.Sc. in computer science from Northeastern University, Boston, MA in 1989. She completed her PhD at the University College London.
