Vice-president (research) pro tempore appointed by Regents

Dr. Ray Gosine has been named vice-president (research) pro tempore.

The Board of Regents approved his appointment effective Sept. 27. The appointment is in effect until Dec. 31, 2017, or when a new vice-president (research) is appointed.

MI VP reappointed

Memorial’s Board of Regents has approved the reappointment of Glenn Blackwood as vice-president, Memorial University (Marine Institute) for a second five-year term effective Nov. 1, 2016.

At its regular meeting on Feb. 4, the Board of Regents approved the reappointment of Dr. Ray Gosine as associate vice-president (research) for a second five-year term effective May 2016.

Water Quality at Memorial University

The health and safety of our employees, students and visitors are paramount. Based on elevated levels of lead found in the drinking water of two buildings on Memorial’s St. John’s campus, the university was closed on July 31 and Aug. 1. A safe, adequate supply of water is now available for students, faculty, staff and visitors and as a result, the main St. John's campus is open. As work progresses to determine the source of the issue, updates will be posted on this site.

The Vice-Presidents Council (VPC) is working to address the serious and complex budgetary challenges facing Memorial University. As this important work continues, VPC is committed to listening to the questions and concerns of the university community and sharing information whenever possible.

Memorial University positioned for global success with Strategic Internationalization Plan 2020

Memorial University of Newfoundland has released the Strategic Internationalization Plan 2020, a plan with specific recommendations to guide the university in the implementation of a wide range of ambitious international and intercultural initiatives over the next several years.

Enrolment planning underway at Memorial

Senior academic leaders, faculty, staff, students and administrators gathered on Jan. 23 to discuss undergraduate enrolment planning for the St. John’s campus as part of the implementation of Enrolment Plan 2020, a plan that will guide Memorial towards the achievement of enrolments targets while focusing on the quality of the student experience.

Dr. Richard Marceau, vice-president (research), released a draft of the Strategic Internationalization Plan 2020 on Tuesday, Sept.16, 2014, for university-wide feedback.

VPC invests in frameworks

The Vice-Presidents Council recently announced base funding totaling $3.0 million beginning in the fiscal year 2014-15 to support ongoing and future work of the three frameworks across the university.

Provost releases Internationalization White Paper for Memorial University

Today, Dr. Wardlaw, Provost and Vice-President (Academic) is releasing the Internationalization White Paper for Memorial University which assesses internationalization at Memorial. 

 

Provost releases report on Administrative Review of the Division of Cooperative Education

Today Dr. David Wardlaw, Provost and Vice President (Academic) is releasing a report summarizing an Administrative Review of the Division of Cooperative Education conducted by Jane Helleur & Associates Inc.

A report on the feasibility of a law school at Memorial University has been completed.

The report has been delivered to President Gary Kachanoski.

A report on athletics at Memorial University has been completed.

Memorial releases Face Forward: PresidentÂ’s Report 2013

Memorial University today released its annual retrospective publication, this year titled Face Forward: President’s Report 2013. To see some of the faces of the people who are working together to move Memorial forward as well as to view their stories and the vital signs and financial highlights for 2012-13, visit www.mun.ca/presidentsreport.

Understanding a global perspective

Plans are gearing up at Memorial University for the preparation of a white paper on internationalization. These plans were put into motion at the July 16 meeting of the Vice-Presidents Council, when members approved the document’s terms of reference.

Memorial smoke-free

A full smoking ban is now in effect at Memorial University. The final stage of the phased-in approach to banning smoking on all campuses began Aug. 1.
