Meet our undergraduate students

Leah Peddle

Just one year ago, bachelor of music student Leah Peddle moved from the small town of Lethbridge in Bonavista Bay to St. John’s to study classical voice at Memorial. Whether performing weekly for live audiences, or adapting to a remote learning environment, her university experience has already been one to remember. No matter what she encounters (in and outside of the classroom), her passion for family, friends and home is what keeps her spirit sound.

Meet Amaka

Amaka Anyanwu, a Nigerian native, is studying Nursing at Memorial. Amaka's first memory at Memorial was the friendly staff and students at the International Student Advising (ISA) Office, “I really felt like I was home” she said. She also appreciates the dedication of her professors to their students, “they are willing to create extra time to assist students with any problem in their course.”

March

Meet Kimberly

Meet Kimberly, a native of Nova Scotia.

Kimberley’s first memory from residence was waiting in line, on check-in day, for her residence keys. Talking to those around her she quickly realized that everyone was just as nervous about the new experience as she was.

She reminds those moving into residence in the future to pack socks. “I realized when I got to MUN that I didn’t pack a single sock. I had to borrow socks until I was able to go home for Thanksgiving!“

Kimberly is also a Memorial Ambassador, a volunteer role that allows her to represent the university at a wide range of activities and events.

February

Meet Jelisa

Meet Jelisa Gallant. A PEI native who chose to study in Newfoundland because its still pretty close to home, but yet far enough away to experience living on your own. Jelisa enjoys the vibe St. John's embodies and says "discovering and exploring Newfoundland has been an amazing and beautiful journey that isn’t over yet.”

Meet Jennifer

Jennifer Hanlon is a native of Newfoundland & Labrador who, despite Memorial University being in her backyard, chose the school due to its excellent academic reputation and its economical tuition.  Jennifer’s advice to prospective Memorial students would be to “take advantage of every opportunity to broaden your personal and academic horizons. Memorial offers so many unique courses, you’re sure to discover something new that you love.” During exam time, as a study break, Jennifer likes to play a game of basketball with friends at the Field House. She says it allows her to clear her mind and relax, just enough to keep her motivated for her next study session.

Meet Callum

Meet Callum Sizer, an Australian native who completed high school in China and wanted to continue to study abroad for his bachelors degree. He chose Canada as it was similar in culture to Australia, yet still offered him the chance to travel the world. Callum likes how St. John’s is small, yet vibrant, “the city has a real charm to it.” From his place it’s only a 20-minute walk to the university or downtown.

Meet Anik

Anik, originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh, is currently completing his bachelor of engineering degree, with a major in civil engineering. He chose to study in Canada because a Canadian education is highly regarded and the quality is top notch. In particular he chose Memorial’s Engineering program because of its five mandatory four-month long work terms, the exposure they give you to the engineering industry, and the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing cutting edge research that is happening in the faculty.
