General Admission Requirements

Credential

Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education O Levels and Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education A Levels.

 

Required Subject Areas

  1. English
  2. Mathematics*
  3. Laboratory Science* (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
  4. Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language
  5. Elective

*Students who are missing an eligible course in subject groups 2, 3 or 4, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact admissions@mun.ca.

Completion of A level subject examinations with minimum scores may qualify accepted applicants for course-based transfer credit. Refer to our transfer credit process for further details.

 

General Admission Criteria

Grade requirement
  • Completion of the Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education with a minimum grade of B in the required subject areas at the O level and at least three Advanced (“A”) Level subjects with a minimum grade of C.
English language proficiency
Competitive program entry (if applicable)
  • Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions.

 

Additional Notes

Applied Advanced Level subjects are not an ideal preparation for our programs. General Paper, General Studies, Critical Thinking, Thinking Skills, and Key Skills subjects are not acceptable.

 

 

Supporting Documents Required

If you have not yet completed "A" Levels

When you apply (early decision)
  • If A level results are not yet available, a provisional decision may be possible using the final O level certificate and Predicted Grades for the A levels or the Provisional Results Slip of the A levels.
  • Official English proficiency test result sent directly from the testing authority.
  • Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
    • If you are applying for admission to nursing or fine arts, you should e-mail an unofficial copy of your transcript, showing mid-year grade/progress report (issued by your school in January/February) no later than March 1.
When you complete your examinations (final decision)
  • Certified copies of your official final Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education O Levels and Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education A Levels sent by post or courier to the Office of the Registrar.

 

If you have completed "A" levels and not attended a post-secondary institution

  • Certified copies of your official final Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education O Levels and Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education A Levels sent by post or courier to the Office of the Registrar.
  • Official English proficiency test result sent directly from the testing authority.
  • Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.

 

If you have attended a post-secondary institution
