General admission requirements

Credential

Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) (Malaysian Higher School Certificate) or United Examination Certificate (UEC) for Chinese Independent Schools in Malaysia.

Required subject areas

  1. English
  2. Mathematics*
  3. Laboratory Science* (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
  4. Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language*
  5. Elective

*Students who are missing an eligible course in one of subject groups 2, 3 or 4, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact admissions@mun.ca.

General admission criteria

Grade requirement
  • For admission to Fall (Sept) 2024 and later: Applicants are required to have completed the SPM with a minimum grade of B in the required subject areas and minimum grades of B- on the STPM (Malaysian Higher School Certificate) or an average of B6 in the required subject areas on the UEC with a passing grade in each subject.

  • For admission to Spring (May) 2024 and earlier: Applicants are required to have completed the SPM with a minimum grade of C in the required subject areas and minimum grades of C on the STPM (Malaysian Higher School Certificate) or a grade of B6 in the required subject areas on the UEC.

    Students who complete an alternative curriculum to STPM should also refer to the admissions criteria for that curriculum.
English language proficiency
Competitive program entry (if applicable)
  • Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions.

  • Certified translation of SPM and STPM (Malaysian Higher School Certificate) or United Examination Certificate for Chinese Independent Schools in Malaysia and a certified copy of the original native-language documents sent by post or courier to the Office of the Registrar.

If you have completed high school and not attended a post-secondary institution

  • Certified translation of SPM and STPM (Malaysian Higher School Certificate) or United Examination Certificate for Chinese Independent Schools in Malaysia and a certified copy of the original native-language documents sent by post or courier to the Office of the Registrar.
  • Official English proficiency test result.
  • Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
