General admission requirements

Required subject areas

  1. English
  2. Mathematics*
  3. Laboratory Science* (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
  4. Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language*
  5. Elective

*Students who are missing an eligible course in one of subject groups 2, 3 or 4, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact admissions@mun.ca.

General admission criteria

Grade requirement
  • For admission to Fall (Sept) 2024 and later: Minimum average of 60 in the required subject areas, with a passing grade in each subject.
  • For admission to Spring (May) 2024 and earlier: Minimum grade of 50 in the required subject areas.
English language proficiency
Competitive program entry (if applicable)
  • Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions.

  • Official Leaving Certificate sent to the Office of the Registrar by post or courier directly from the State Examinations Council or by you in an envelope that has been officially sealed by the State Examinations Council. 

If you have completed high school and not attended a post-secondary institution

  • Official Leaving Certificate sent to the Office of the Registrar by post or courier directly from the State Examinations Council or by you in an envelope that has been officially sealed by the State Examinations Council.
  • Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.

If you have attended a post-secondary institution
