General Admission Requirements
Credential
One of the following is required:
- Higher Secondary School Certificate
- Higher Secondary Certificate
- Indian School Certificate
- Intermediate Examination Certificate
- All India or Delhi Senior School Certificate
- Pre-University Certificate
Required Subject Areas
- English
- Mathematics*
- Laboratory Science* (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
- Social Studies or Modern/Classical Language
- Elective
*Students who are missing an eligible course in subject groups 2, 3 or 4, who apply for admission to a program that does not require completion of these courses, will be considered for general admission. In this case, an eligible course in subject groups 1, 2, 3 or 4 may be used to substitute the missing course. Students who are missing eligible courses in two subject areas should contact admissions@mun.ca.
Calculus is a required course in first year for business/commerce (St. John's campus only), and science programs at Memorial. The pre-requisite for calculus is completion of Grade 12 pre-calculus mathematics. To ensure students are prepared for entry into their chosen program of study, 12th level mathematics is normally required for admission to business/commerce and science programs. Students who do not meet this requirement should email admissions@mun.ca for more information.
General Admission Criteria
Grade requirement
- Minimum overall grade of 50% in the required subject areas. This will normally be considered equivalent to no more than two grades less than 50% and a “pass” in all 5 subject areas.
English language proficiency
- Proof of English language proficiency is required through a standardized test. IELTS is the recommended test for the Canadian visa/study permit application.
Competitive program entry (if applicable)
- Admission to some programs is competitive for a limited number of spaces. A higher admission average and/or supplementary information may be required as part of the faculty-specific admissions.

When you apply (early decision)
- Current, interim transcript and 10th result certificate. Documents can be official or unofficial.
- Official English proficiency test result sent directly from the testing authority.
- Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
When you complete your examinations (final decision)
- Certified copy of your final official credential sent by post or courier to the Office of the Registrar.
If you have completed high school and not attended a post-secondary institution
- Certified copy of your final official credential sent directly by post or courier to the Office of the Registrar.
- Official English proficiency test result sent directly from the testing authority.
- Supplementary information required for competitive-entry programs may be required with your application.
If you have attended a post-secondary institution
- Refer to our university or college applicant requirements.
