Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)

Overview:

The Atlantic Immigration Program is a pathway to permanent residence for skilled foreign workers and international graduate students (IGS) who want to work and live in 1 of Canada’s 4 Atlantic provinces: New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Through this program, employers can assist in ensuring up to 442 skilled individuals annually settle in the province and help grow the economy.

Who can apply:

International Graduate Students, Memorial University

Immigration pathway:
  • Complete your program at Memorial University
  • Have a PGWP (post-graduation work permit)
  • Receive a job offer from a designated employer
  • Complete your settlement plan
  • Obtain a certificate of endorsement
  • Apply for permanent residency
Eligibility Requirements for IGS
  • Have a degree, diploma, certificate, or trade or apprenticeship certification that took at least two years of studies
    • Must have been a full-time student for the entire time you were studying
  • Have a post-graduation work permit
  • Have an offer of employment
    • The employer must be on the list of NL designated employers; and
    • The offer of employment must be for a full time position in a National Occupational Classification (NOC) of O, A, or B, lasting at least 1 year past permanent residency issuance (2 years of full-time employment in total); or
    • The offer is for a full time, permanent position in a NOC C classified occupation.
  • No work experience is required
  • Meet the minimum language requirements based on the National Occupational Classification (NOC) that applies to your job offer
    • English: Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) - O, A, B
    • French: Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) - C
    • Submit the results from a designated language testing organization with your application. These results must be less than 2 years old when you apply.
  • Have lived in NL for at least 16 months during the last 2 years before you graduated
  • Have enough money to support yourself and your family when you get to Canada
    • The amount you need depends on the size of your family. The size of your family also includes anyone you support who isn’t immigrating with you.
      • Note: If you are already living and working in Canada with a valid work permit, you don’t need to show proof of funds
How to apply:
  • Get an employment offer from a designated employer in NL
  • When a designated employer offers you a job, they’ll give you an Offer of Employment to a Foreign National form. You must make sure you meet the employment requirements listed in the National Occupational Classification. You’ll need this form when you work with a service provider organization on your settlement plan and for your permanent residence application
  • Get your documents ready:
    • Degree
    • Language test results
    • Proof of funds
    • Other documents as shown in this checklist
  • Create a settlement plan: After you get a job offer from a designated employer, you need to get a settlement plan- it is free.
  • Get your certificate of endorsement
    • Your employer will handle this process
    • After you have your settlement plan, the province must endorse your job offer
    • If the province endorses your job offer, you’ll get a Certificate of Endorsement in the mail.
  • Apply for permanent residency
    • Include your endorsement certificate with your permanent residence (PR) application.
