Youth Foster Support Program

Memorial University’s Youth Foster Support Program is a bursary for students who have been in foster care in Newfoundland and Labrador for a minimum of 12 months. This bursary is valued at the cost of tuition and required fees for fulltime undergraduate students – based on NL tuition rates for the 2022-2023 academic year. Each academic year this amount will be adjusted as fees change. The bursary will cover four years (or eight semesters) of undergraduate study, including Marine Institute diploma programs where tuition/fees and program duration may be less than noted above.

Application Process/Timeline

  • The deadline to submit an application for Winter 2023 is closed.  The deadline to submit for Fall 2023 is June 1, 2023.
  • While the program is available to students starting in the first semester of each academic year, Memorial will accept up to 20 students in each academic year.
  • To be considered for this bursary, students must complete the Youth Foster Bursary application and include a letter of support to be completed by the Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development. To obtain this confirmation, you must email the Department at to request confirmation.
