Image and Data Analysis Facility

The primary role of the Image and Data Analysis Facility (IDAF) is to provide the Ocean Sciences research community with access to instrumentation and computational resources to facilitate the process of acquiring, quantifying, qualifying and processing marine scientific imagry data. The facility is located approxiamtely 10 km away from the main Memorial campus in the scenic Logy Bay Ocean Sciences Centre complex.Ocean Sciences Centre aereal view

A variety of tools are available such as a Zeiss inverted fluorescence capable compound microscope, a Wildt Stereoscope and a marcoscope larval imaging workstation, coupled to high resolution digital microscopy cameras. Image analysis software for morphometric measurement, compute tools for behavioural and numerical data analysis, visualization and image manipulation are also available.

Image analysis systemThe IDAF is inter-connected with the RRIAS (rapid research image acquisition system), which allows for extended duration marine behavioural video acquisition and storage. Workstations located in the IDAF facilitate access to and interpretation of RRIAS video data.
