Affiliated Applied Research and Development Centres

The Canadian Centre for Marine Communications (CCMC) collaborates with the Canadian marine information and communications technology (ICT) industry in the development and commercialization of products and services that incorporate the latest advancements in marine communications, navigation and information technology. Through alliances with various public and private partners, CCMC undertakes strategic technology and business development initiatives targeted at establishing a prosperous marine ICT industry and infrastructure in Canada.

CCMC's support for new technology development is undertaken within a framework of three programs: SmartShip™ is focused on the development of shipboard IT products and services including communication, navigation and systems integration; InfoMarine supports the pursuit of commercial opportunities around the growing information requirements of the marine community; and SeaComm aims to increase the international competitiveness of Canadian marine radio and satellite communication technology and applications in response to market opportunities.

CCMC maintains close liaison with an international network of professionals and organizations through attendance at key trade shows and conferences, and active participation on regulatory committees, etc. These activities ensure that CCMC maintains a strategic understanding of future technology, policy and cultural trends in the marketplace. This intelligence is communicated to CCMC members, and others, through our electronic newsletter CCMC Online. CCMC also publishes a Canadian Marine ICT Directory. All activities are undertaken in collaboration with strategic partners, and are designed to build, link by link, a Canadian marine ICT network comprising industry, government and academia. CCMC is an initiative of the Canada/Newfoundland Agreement on Economic Renewal and the Fisheries and Marine Institute, Memorial University of Newfoundland.
