Ms. Rideout attended Memorial from 1972 – 75, and then began work with Canadian National Telecommunications (now Bell Aliant).

In 1980 she left the company and obtained an accounting diploma at the Gander Vocational School, now the Gander Campus of the College of the North Atlantic. She earned her Chartered Accountant designation in 1987and a Chartered Financial Planner designation in 1991 while working with Walters Hoffe, Chartered Accountants. She became a partner with that firm in 1996. The firm merged with Grant Thornton LLP in 2014 and she continued as a principal with that firm, a position which she held until retiring in 2015. Since that time she has been employed part-time with Exploits Valley Air Services Limited as a consultant to the management and accounting staff.

Ms. Rideout has served on more than a dozen boards over the years, including Newfoundland Power, the Heritage Foundation for Terra Nova Park, the Gander International Airport Authority (including a term as Chair), the Board of Examiners for the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Gander & Area Chamber of Commerce. Her current board memberships include the Embalmers and Funeral Directors Board of Newfoundland and Labrador, Golden Legion Manor Limited and the Community Action Group for Adults with Development Disabilities Inc.

In addition to sitting on the Board of Regents, she is one of three members cross-appointed to Board of Governors of the College of the North Atlantic.
