Industrial Training Program (MI)*

financial highlights

  • Memorial University utilizes the principles of fund accounting that segregates resources according to the restrictions placed on the funds or the purposes for which they were approved. The operating fund supports the primary operating activities of the university. Other funds include ancillary, research, plant, and special purpose and trust funds. The audited consolidated financial statements report on the aggregate of all funds.
  • The university’s operating budget funds the operations of the university, including the Grenfell and Marine Institute campuses. A grant is also provided to Harlow Campus in Essex, England.
  • The university's unconsolidated operating fund expenditures for fiscal year 2018 were $459.187 million.
  • Student fees comprised 14 per cent of total operating fund revenue.
  • The provincial government operating grant decreased 1.44 per cent over fiscal year 2017. The decrease related to government budget reductions related to deferred maintenance, salaries attrition and general budget reductions.
  • The Department of Health and Community Services provided a one-time grant of $10 million to the Faculty of Medicine to cover an accumulated deficit.
  • 76 per cent of expenditures in the operating fund have been spent in the academic, library and student services functional areas.
  • The university provided $6.4 million in undergraduate and graduate scholarships, bursaries, and other awards from our endowed and non-endowed trust funds.
