Procedure for displaying a Flag

1. The Executive Director of Marketing and Communications authorizes the displaying of a Flag at the University’s official Flag sites, at one or more campuses.
2. When there is a request that the University display a Flag, this request must be consistent with the Flags Policy, section 4. The request must be submitted by completing an online form at least one business day prior to the day/event so that appropriate action may be taken. To be eligible, the cause or event the Flag represents must align with the University’s values and be non-commercial, non-religious, non-political and non-partisan in nature. Approval to display a Flag in any given year is considered a one-time approval and does not indicate approval for future years, thereby requiring the submission of subsequent requests. Where a request is accepted, it is the responsibility of the requestor to provide an outdoor Flag of appropriate size (no larger than 36” X 72” in dimension) and features.
3. In exceptional circumstances and on the advice of the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications, the President and Vice-Chancellor may approve requests that are not addressed in these procedures.
