Vanessa Byrne, MMS
Born and raised in Newfoundland, my inclination to remain near the Ocean and maintain a vested interest in fisheries has led me to graduate with a BSc in Marine Biology from Memorial University of Newfoundland in April 2016. I then achieved a Master of Marine Studies (Fisheries Resource Management) from Marine Institute in April 2018. I have lived and worked in Nova Scotia as an Offshore Fisheries Observer on commercial trawling vessels and more recently, in New Brunswick as a Certification Internal Auditor for the aquaculture industry.
Inevitably, the strong pull of Newfoundland has led me back to “the rock”. Fairly new to the Snelgrove Lab, I am working as Paul’s Research Assistant. This includes field work, data collection, and running the laboratory in Paul’s absence - including editing this website!
When I am not working I can be found at the nearest pool hall (yes, I play competitive pocket billiards!), reading, exercising, or when the weather permits (not often enough in Newfoundland), riding my motorcycle. Asking me about my cat is a sure fire way of getting me to talk, not that that's a tough challenge to start with.
