Note for International Applicants who want to apply to the Western Regional School of Nursing (WRSON): If you are choosing the Grenfell campus on your application, you will not see nursing as an area of interest. You must first choose the St. John's campus. Then, on the following step of your application, you will select WRSON as your 1st choice campus. If you have any questions about this, please email nursingadmissions@mun.ca

Priority for admission is given to applicants who are residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, but we welcome applications from international students. The application opens mid-October, 2023. The deadline to apply is January 20, 2024.

It is strongly advised that international applicants take courses at Memorial University for two semesters (fall and winter) before applying to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Program (4-Year Option and Accelerated Option). During these two semesters, applicants should complete the required courses for admission: Biology 1001 and Biology 1002, one of Chemistry 1010, 1050, 1051, 1001 or 1810, and three credit hours in Math. Additional courses are required for admission to the accelerated option.

4-Year Option:

International applicants who have post-secondary experience are required to have completed in high school: grade 11 Biology, grade 12 Biology, grade 12 Chemistry, and grade 12 Math. If these courses were not completed in high school, applicants should take two semesters at Memorial to complete the required courses for admission into the 4-Year Option: Biology 1001, Biology 1002; one of  Chemistry 1010, 1050, 1051, 1200, 1001, or 1810; and three credit hours in Math. In addition to these required courses, students may choose to complete some of the non-nursing elective courses during these two semesters.

International applicants who are applying directly out of high school are required to complete the following courses: grade 11 Biology, grade 12 Biology, grade 12 Chemistry, grade 12 math, grade 12 English, and a grade 12 social science or modern language course.

To be Competitive for Admission:

To be competitive for admission, applicants should have a 70% average or higher from one semester of the calendar year previous to the one they are seeking admission to, where a minimum of three courses were completed, OR as a cumulative average. The higher average of the two is then used for admission into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) (Collaborative) Program.

Accelerated Option

The accelerated option is 3 years in duration and runs over eight consecutive semesters. It is strongly advised that international applicants take courses at Memorial University for a minimum of two semesters before applying to the Bachelor of Nursing in Science (BScN)(Collaborative) Program. If you do not have the required biology, chemistry, and math courses completed in high school, you should register for Biology 1001, Biology 1002; one of Chemistry 1010, 1050, 1051, 1200, 1001, or 1810; and three credit hours in Math. Transfer Credits:

Transfer students applying to the 4-Year Option and to the Accelerated Option will have an automatic transfer credit evaluation completed (requested by the Nursing Admissions Office) once the admission application is received so as to determine if Program admission requirements have been met.

For the Four-Year Option, only the required biology and chemistry and math courses along with the non-nursing courses will be evaluated for transfer credit. For the Accelerated Option, only the required courses will be evaluated for transfer credit for admission purposes.

If students who are admitted to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) (Collaborative) Program wish to investigate their transfer credits, they should contact the Transfer Credit Office at: transfer.credit@mun.ca.

Transcripts:

Students applying to the 4-Year Option or to the Accelerated Option from a post-secondary institution other than Memorial University must provide a current official interim transcript by the application deadline.
