Call for Performances and Proposals

Dear Faculty, Students, and Alumni,

The Newfound Music Festival committee is pleased to put out this call for participation in the Newfound Music Festival XIX, which will take place February 9th – 11th, 2022.

The Festival Committee would like to invite all students, alumni, and faculty to consider sharing your “Newfound ideas” with the School of Music community. We are making a call for symposium presentations and gala performances.

An annual tradition, the SYMPOSIUM of this year’s NEWFOUND MUSIC FESTIVAL XVIII will once again be held in Suncor Energy Hall with short, varied, and fun-filled sessions. The date for the symposium is Thursday, February 10th from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm. Presentations/performances that are anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes in duration; sessions may take the form of presentations, lecture-demonstrations, or performances on any topic related to new music and/or new ways of looking at all music and musical practice.

Suggested topics include:

-Performances of contemporary compositions
-Lecture/performances
-Student composition performances
-Presentations on any aspect of your research or interests
We especially would like to encourage presentations that involve repertoire by BIPOC, female, Canadian and LGBTQ+ composers.

The GALA CONCERT of this year’s NEWFOUND MUSIC FESTIVAL XVIII will be held on Friday February 11th, 2022 at 7:30pm in D.F. Cook Recital Hall, MUN School of Music. We welcome all genres and interpretations of contemporary music, including but not limited to contemporary classical, jazz, and improvised music. Ideal work duration is 4 - 10 minutes, and smaller ensembles (1 - 5) are encouraged.

- Faculty proposals
-Student proposals
-Meaningful musical collaborations between Faculty and Students
-BIPOC composers and performers
-Female composers and performers
-Canadian composers
-LGBTQ+ composers and performers

The deadline for submissions for festival programming is Monday, November 22, 2021.
