Project Earth: The Blue Chapter | Mainstage Concert Series

The Iris Trio (including faculty member Christine Carter) returns to St. John's to present the complete Blue Chapter of their multi-year Project Earth. This special evening will include the world premiere performances of two new works by Florian Hoefner and poet Don McKay. For those of you who remember Bird Island Suite from 2019, this Project Earth sequel is not to be missed!

Join the MUN Wind Ensemble for a concert of music filled with colour featuring 2019 concerto competition winner Erin Sullivan performing Bert Appermont’s Colours. Other works include Jan Van der Roost’s Puszta, Viet Cuong’s Diamond Tide, and Alex Shapiro’s Tight Squeeze.

Join us for the 100th anniversary celebration of the birth of legendary musician and composer Astor Piazzolla and the little-known connection between him and Jorge Luis Borges, one of the most important figures of Latin American literature. ¡Tanguissimo! Piazzolla meets Borges is the result of a collaboration between guitarist Sylvie Proulx and Spanish professor Myriam Osorio. The multidisciplinary program features School of Music faculty and students as well as Dr. John Turci-Escobar, Butler School of Music, University of Texas. Don‘t miss this rare opportunity to discover the fiery encounter of these two giants of Argentinean culture!

Announcing the first show in our Winter 2022 Mainstage Concert Series! We are kicking off our Series in a way that may look different than originally planned but the show must go on! We are delighted to invite you to join us virtually for Essence-ial Listening with the Trinitas Chamber Ensemble!

“…the spirit of humankind, beset these days with anguish over the state of the world, can still find beauty, and it is the artist’s task to reflect beauty as well as anguish.” (Canadian composer Mary Gardiner, 1993.) Join Trinitas Chamber Ensemble for a program of trios full of the joy and despair of our human life, featuring works by Gardiner, Jake Heggie, Stacy Garrop, and Ned Rorem.

Newfound Music Festival is an annual festival that invites students, alumni, and faculty to share their "Newfound ideas" with the School of Music community. This year, Newfound Music Festival is proud to present an eclectic gala featuring one of our newest faculty members, Gregory Oh, and a host of talented performers and composers from the School of Music, including Tiago Delgado, Gillian Morrissey, Michelle Cheramy and Phil Roberts, Andrew Gosse and Mackenzie Broders, and Trio Lyrical. Tune in for an exciting program of contemporary music!
