Adm. Hist/Bio. Sketch: Harold Leslie Lake was born in 1919, son of H.B. Clyde Lake and Sarah (Spencer). He married Flora Elizabeth Robinson Chafe. He was educated at Prince of Wales College, and King's Collegiate, Nova Scotia. After his service in WWII he joined his father's firm, H.B. Clyde Lake Limited, where he became Director and General Manager of their St. John's office. He later became Director and Executive Vice-President of The Lake Group Limited (owning 38% of the shares). He was Chief Operating Officer of Caribou Reefers Limited. He remained in this position in the company until March 8, 1982, when his position was taken over by Mr. Timothy Eburne. He then formed a partnership with William Walsh and re-activated an old company, Newfoundland Fisheries Limited, which he had bought previously.

The company became involved in a brokerage and commission business in fish and fish-meal, the buying and selling of various types of fish, ships, marine insurance, and in fishery related consulting work. Lake was also Director of and/or owned shares in numerous companies including Newfoundland Marine Holdings Limited, Seaking Limited, Vanguard Paper Box Limited, Atlantic Securities Limited, Newfoundland Shipyards Limited, Clyde Lake Shipping, Seabase Limited and Atlantic Port Services Limited. Harold Lake died in 1994.
